It’s a good thing I never get round to cleaning my paint palette because it had all the muddy colours I needed for this wee common toad! Sometimes there’s a benefit to being a little messy!
100 days of flora and fauna
Back to trying to crack this old chestnut! I started this 100 day project with the intention to create a little nature painting everyday for 100 days. But I’ve got way side tracked by other things so now I’m just going to aim for 100 paintings without the time constraint. It’s no fun when I set too many rules on my creativity anyway! So here’s to a 100 at some point project!! 😅
How great are the tufts on this birds head! Ive been thinking about creatures that are local to me for this challenge. I live near a loch that has a population of these birds but I’ve yet to see one. After painting this one I’m inspired to dig out my binoculars and hunt some down to see those tufts in person!
After a few days of focussing on the creatures within the British Isles I’ve taken a quick floral interlude. Painting florals is my comfort zone but sometimes its nice to fall back to old habits especially when you have been working on new skills.
Painting no. 28 of #100daysofbritishfloraandfauna is the Common Blue. It’s a quick and messy gouache painting instead of lots of watercolour washes. I couldn’t decide what shade of blue to use so I just used them all! ⠀
Painting no 27 is Painted Lady. I’m having a dilemma with this one. This butterfly is a British bug but only because it migrates from Morocco in the summer. So does it belong in my collection of #100daysofbritishfloraandfauna? Or does it belong in the non native creatures like geese or grey squirrels that I’m not going to include?
I had to dig out my white acrylic gouache for painting no.26. It turns out painting a white butterfly is hard! I do love the orange tips on the wings. It makes them easy to spot in the wild. ⠀
Painting no. 25 of #100daysofbritishfloraandfauna. I’m a quarter of the way there which is petty good for me. I usually duck out about day 10 of these challenges I set my self because I have the attention of a goldfish! The next few days are going to be all about British butterflies and florals 🦋🌱🌸 Anyone got a favourite Uk butterfly I should paint?
