Painting 41 of #100daysofbritishfloraandfauna is a Scotch Argus. I’m going to hunt for these guys up in moors and grassland once July rolls in. I think they are still caterpillars munching at the moment 🐛As usual it’s painted with watercolour paint then a little finishing touch of gouache and watercolour pencil ✏️
A Wall butterfly for this evenings painting session, so called because they are often found sunbathing on walls 😎☀️. I’m really enjoying painting all the different British butterflies within#100daysofbritishfloraandfauna. But reading about their reduction in numbers while researching is a real downer😞 These guys have gone from relatively common to mostly around coastal areas in the Uk and particularly uncommon in Scotland if you want to find one
Number 36 of 100! I’ve only got 11 butterflies left on my list to paint. That’s left me with quite a few spaces to fill but I’m not sure what group of creatures to pick next!? Moths, beetles, fish? Time to do a little researching🤓
This will be the one and only white butterfly in my #100daysofbritishfloraandfauna 🦋 It was a bit tricky but some black watercolour pencils saved the day! When it comes to painting I much prefer the butterflies that are lovely orange and brown colours
Painting no 27 is Painted Lady. I’m having a dilemma with this one. This butterfly is a British bug but only because it migrates from Morocco in the summer. So does it belong in my collection of #100daysofbritishfloraandfauna? Or does it belong in the non native creatures like geese or grey squirrels that I’m not going to include?
I had to dig out my white acrylic gouache for painting no.26. It turns out painting a white butterfly is hard! I do love the orange tips on the wings. It makes them easy to spot in the wild. ⠀
Painting no. 25 of #100daysofbritishfloraandfauna. I’m a quarter of the way there which is petty good for me. I usually duck out about day 10 of these challenges I set my self because I have the attention of a goldfish! The next few days are going to be all about British butterflies and florals 🦋🌱🌸 Anyone got a favourite Uk butterfly I should paint?
